Desc: The Cooped Coupes: Directed by Ian Sergeant. Collaborative artists Ian Sergeant & Ben Jackson travel Australia looking for & photographing lost treasures . They create atmospheric photographs of classic autos & collectables. Shot where the objects are found in old crammed sheds the images reveal a space that looks as if it has been locked up and forgotten. Although the photographic art by its nature duplicates reality, Sarge & Ben's images have been assembled & controlled with all of the lighting ,compositional,set building skills of the illustrative photographer to create an emotional response. Each shot is a mise en scene or a' film in one frame' Which leads us into Sarge & Ben's film 'The Cooped Coupes' The film follows Ben & Sarge on the first of their many Oldshed Adventures.We are introduced to Mark, the owner of 2 unrestored classic cars which he has owned since 16. We learn that Mark's first marriage to Mylie failed after 2 years because of Mark's obsessive collecting but failure to restore anything. Then we see how the photograph of the 2 cars progresses from concept, set building ,propping, lighting right thru to to printing & the making of the hand made frame.The surprise is when we discover that after 20 years Mark & Mylie reunite only for her to find he still has the old obsession along with the 2 unrestored cars & a container full of engines.She loves him & this time decides to live with his selfish obsession as it is a part of him.The final photo of the 2 cars is an allegory of their life.
